Shaken is a really good book. The theme of the book is that no matter how tough our trials in life are, God has a plan.  Throughout the book, Tim Tebow has provided examples of how God has used him and others to impact and save lives.  Tebow talks of his own trials and what he has had to face when his career was spiraling down.  People criticized him, looked down on him, told him he couldn’t do jack by being a quarterback (because that was his biggest dream in the NFL).  Tebow felt disappointed, like he let down himself, his family, friends, and fans.  But amidst all that, Tebow turned to God, Scripture and loved ones for encouragement and support.  He has had to remind himself that no matter what happens in life, God has a plan to utilize his gifts for the benefits of other people.  God has done this, even though maybe not in the way that Tebow planned.  Tebow has come to the realization that other people and circumstances do not define who we are, but it is how God sees us and who He made us to be that defines us.  Really the bottom line in Tebow’s book is the questions “who are we when life doesn’t seem to go our way?”

There are ten chapters in the book and what really stood out to me were chapters seven, “Who said normal is the goal?”, eight, “Stand up” and ten “What matters most”.  They are about what more we can do that is outside of “normal”, standing up for something bigger than ourselves, and realizing that it’s not the little things (that seem big), but the big things (that seem small) that matter.  What I like about the book are the examples that Tebow provides of people who are going through struggles in life, whether it’s physical, mental, or spiritual and how they impact the lives of others positively (and Tebow himself has drawn inspiration from these people).  I think this book will inspire people to endure life’s trials and maybe impact them in a way that leads them to God.  So I would recommend this book to others for its inspirational values, spiritual direction, and motivational chapters that speak of finding whose we are in life and who God has made us to be.
